About The Position

The Phlebotomy Support Technician is responsible for the collection and processing of blood and other specimens as directed. This role performs proper specimen collection by confirming patient ID, collecting specimens in proper tubes, utilizing venipuncture/capillary techniques, and accurately labeling the specimens to ensure accurate patient results. They also process specimens appropriately for subsequent testing and accession, update information, and make corrections to orders as needed.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Certified as a Phlebotomy Technician or Medical Laboratory Assistant from a nationally recognized laboratory certifying agency (for Tech II)
• 3 months phlebotomy experience in a laboratory setting (for Tech II)
• None (for Tech I)
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Able to work independently and collaboratively in teams
• Proficient in using computers and computer systems
• Strong analytical/problem solving skills (for Tech I)
• Ability to communicate effectively with different levels of management (for Tech I)
• Excellent customer service, time management, interpersonal, presentation, organization, prioritizing, decision-making, and planning skills (for Tech I)

Nice To Haves

• 6 months phlebotomy experience (for Tech II)
• 6 months phlebotomy experience OR 1 year related experience (for Tech I)

Responsibilities

• Collection and processing of blood and other specimens as directed.
• Performs proper specimen collection by confirming patient ID, collecting specimens in proper tubes, utilizing venipuncture/capillary techniques, and accurately labeling the specimens to ensure accurate patient results.
• Processes specimens appropriately for subsequent testing.
• Accessions, updates information and makes corrections to orders as needed.
