About The Position

CoxHealth is seeking a Phlebotomy Support Technician responsible for the collection and processing of blood and other specimens as directed. This role ensures accurate patient results by performing proper specimen collection, utilizing venipuncture/capillary techniques, and accurately labeling specimens. The technician will also process specimens for subsequent testing and manage order information in the system.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Certified as a Phlebotomy Technician or Medical Laboratory Assistant from a nationally recognized laboratory certifying agency (for Tech II)
• 3 months phlebotomy experience in a laboratory setting (for Tech II)
• Phlebotomist II’s have 30 days from the expiration date of their certificate to provide an updated certification, as long as there is documentation that certification renewal has been applied for.
• None (for Tech I)
• Strong analytical/problem solving skills (for Tech I)
• Ability to communicate effectively with different levels of management (for Tech I)
• Demonstrates clear verbal and written communication skills.
• Able to work independently and collaboratively in teams.
• Proficient in using computers and computer systems.
• Excellent customer service, time management, interpersonal, presentation, organization, prioritizing, decision-making, and planning skills (for Tech I).

Nice To Haves

• 6 months phlebotomy experience (for Tech II)
• 6 months phlebotomy experience OR 1 year related experience (for Tech I)

Responsibilities

• Collection and processing of blood and other specimens as directed.
• Perform proper specimen collection by confirming patient ID.
• Collect specimens in proper tubes.
• Utilize venipuncture/capillary techniques.
• Accurately label specimens to ensure accurate patient results.
• Process specimens appropriately for subsequent testing.
• Accession, update information, and make corrections to orders as needed.
