About The Position

CoxHealth is seeking a Phlebotomy Support Technician I/II to join their Laboratory South department. This role is responsible for the collection and processing of blood and other specimens. The technician will ensure proper patient identification, collect specimens using appropriate techniques, and accurately label them for precise patient results. They will also process specimens for testing, and manage order information including accessioning, updating, and correcting details as necessary. This position operates on a night shift schedule, working 24 hours per week.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Certified as a Phlebotomy Technician or Medical Laboratory Assistant from a nationally recognized laboratory certifying agency (for Phlebotomy Support Tech II)
  • 3 months phlebotomy experience in a laboratory setting (for Phlebotomy Support Tech II)
  • Phlebotomist II’s have 30 days from the expiration date of their certificate to provide an updated certification, as long as there is documentation that certification renewal has been applied for.
  • Proficient in using computers and computer systems
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively in teams

Nice To Haves

  • 6 months phlebotomy experience (for Phlebotomy Support Tech II)
  • 6 months phlebotomy experience OR 1 year related experience (for Phlebotomy Support Tech I)
  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills (for Phlebotomy Support Tech I)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with different levels of management (for Phlebotomy Support Tech I)
  • Excellent customer service, time management, interpersonal, presentation, organization, prioritizing, decision-making, and planning skills (for Phlebotomy Support Tech I)

Responsibilities

  • Collection and processing of blood and other specimens as directed.
  • Performing proper specimen collection by confirming patient ID.
  • Collecting specimens in proper tubes.
  • Utilizing venipuncture/capillary techniques.
  • Accurately labeling specimens to ensure accurate patient results.
  • Processing specimens appropriately for subsequent testing.
  • Accessioning, updating information and making corrections to orders as needed.
