About The Position

Nebraska Methodist College (NMC) is seeking an Adjunct Instructor for Professional Development (PD) to serve as an assistant lab instructor for the Phlebotomy program. This role involves managing the online learning environment, monitoring student progress, entering grades for lab activities, and tracking clinical requirements. The instructor will also support in-person lab sessions with demonstrations and hands-on guidance, and assist with student competency assessments, including live draw check-offs and practical finals. The position requires a commitment to NMC's mission and values, fostering a positive learning environment, and maintaining equipment. The instructor will also be expected to train and teach in other educational roles within the department as needed, such as Nursing Assistant Instructor, Medication Aide Instructor, Nursing Assistant State Tester, and RN Refresher Instructor. This role also includes administrative tasks such as answering phones, triaging calls, participating in team meetings, copying and scanning materials, and assisting with skills sign-offs and evaluations.

Requirements

  • Completion of a terminal degree deemed appropriate per programmatic needs in the assigned discipline from a regionally accredited institution required, with a minimum of 18 semester hours in content-specific related field.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in area relevant to program assignment required.
  • Ability to provide academic instruction, read, analyze, interpret and grade academic assignments in a higher educational environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with personal computer and standard office applications.
  • Knowledge of various teaching methods and adult learning styles.
  • Skill in the effective use of resources including time, information and available services.
  • Knowledge and support of the College mission statement and its values.
  • An ASCP BOC or ASCPi BOC certification as a medical laboratory scientist or medical laboratory technician preferred.
  • Current or willing to obtain Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT), required within 6 months of hire.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s and/or doctoral degree in related field preferred.
  • One or more years of experience in teaching at the post-secondary level is preferred.
  • ASCP BOC or ASCPi BOC certification as a medical laboratory scientist or medical laboratory technician.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) at time of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the online learning environment, including monitoring assignment and exam completion.
  • Enters grades for lab activities and tracks student clinical requirements.
  • Supports in-person lab sessions through demonstrations and hands-on guidance.
  • Assists with student competency assessments, including live draw check-offs and the practical final.
  • Promotes a positive learning environment within the classroom, lab and clinical setting and encourages maximum student participation.
  • Establishes positive rapport with students and employees.
  • Utilizes and follows the curriculum and resources provided.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of equipment to ensure it is in proper working condition.
  • Records and forwards attendance, testing, and evaluation materials to the appropriate contacts within the Division of Professional Development.
  • Ensures classroom, lab spaces and supplies are orderly.
  • Willing to train and teach in all educational roles within the department as needed such as Nursing Assistant Instructor, Medication Aide Instructor, Nursing Assistant State Tester, and RN Refresher Instructor.
  • Answers phones, triages calls and fields questions as needed.

  • Copies and scans program materials.
