This role requires a strong understanding of specimen collection techniques, meticulous attention to detail regarding specimen requirements and proper labeling. The phlebotomist must also understand the importance of patient/hospital confidentiality, be familiar with hospital work regulations and schedules, and value teamwork and cooperation with other hospital departments. Proficiency in medical terminology relevant to the laboratory and handling of patient reports is necessary. Excellent communication skills, both in person and over the phone, are essential for interacting courteously and professionally with patients and hospital staff.
