Phlebotomist
About The Position
This role requires a strong understanding of specimen collection techniques, meticulous attention to detail regarding specimen requirements and proper labeling. The phlebotomist must also understand the importance of patient/hospital confidentiality, be familiar with hospital work regulations and schedules, and value teamwork and cooperation with other hospital departments. Proficiency in medical terminology relevant to the laboratory and handling of patient reports is necessary. Excellent communication skills, both in person and over the phone, are essential for interacting courteously and professionally with patients and hospital staff.
Requirements
- Must understand specimen collection techniques
- Must understand importance of detail in specimen requirements and proper labeling of all specimens
- Must understand the ethics of patient/hospital confidentiality
- Must be familiar with regulations and schedules of hospital work and the importance of teamwork and cooperation with staff from other departments of the hospital
- Must know medical terminology required by the laboratory for phlebotomist and handling of patient reports
- Must know how to communicate in a courteous, professional manner to patients, hospital staff and on telephone
- High school diploma (or equivalent) required
- Experience required
- Must have good driving record
Nice To Haves
- Certification preferred: NPA, ASCP, etc.
