About The Position
Under general supervision, collect blood samples from patients for laboratory tests. This position supports Austin Public Health’s Mission and Core Purpose identified in the Austin Public Health Strategic Plan. Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent plus six (6) months training or experience in phlebotomy collections.
- Knowledge of medical laboratory operations.
- Knowledge of phlebotomy procedures and techniques.
- Skill in obtaining blood specimens from patients under a variety of patient conditions.
- Skill in accurately recording information concerning specimens.
- Skill in understanding and following written and oral instructions.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with hospital.
Nice To Haves
- Phlebotomy Certification
- Phlebotomy experience with pediatric patients and persons who use IV drugs
- Bilingual English and Spanish
- Data entry experience (eClinicaWorks or other electronic health record)
Responsibilities
- Collect blood samples from adult and pediatric patients for laboratory testing.
- Receive and organize requests for blood collection.
- Distribute blood to proper laboratory section after collection for testing.
- Gather supplies and equipment necessary for collection of blood samples.
- Clean laboratory glassware or other equipment.
- Keep blood collection area and phlebotomy rays clean and restocked for future use.
- Record blood collection statistics for documentation.
