About The Position

Ascension Alexian Brothers is seeking a Phlebotomist for 36 hours per week, working PM/Midnights shifts. This role is crucial for the collection of blood specimens, performing laboratory office duties, and processing laboratory specimens. The position involves registering patients, accurately entering data into the computer system, specimen accessioning, answering phones, and processing paperwork. Specimen processing includes preparing specimens for testing and shipment to central or reference laboratories. The individual will handle blood, body fluid, and urine specimens according to established procedures and may perform limited waived and specified non-waived POC tests. In some facilities, this role may also involve acting as a driver and participating in an on-call rotation.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Previous phlebotomy experience and/or training is required
Valid driver’s license and a good driving record

Nice To Haves

Background in a medical laboratory and/or knowledge of medical terminology is preferred
May be required to travel/drive to other locations

Responsibilities

Collection of blood specimens

Processing paperwork
Preparation of specimens for testing and/or for sending to the central laboratory or to a reference laboratory
Handling blood, body fluid and urine specimens according to established procedures
Performing limited waived and specified non-waived POC tests as authorized by the Laboratory Director
Acting as a driver and participating in the on-call rotation (in some facilities, as required)
