About The Position

A phlebotomist performs venipunctures and skin punctures on patients of all ages for the purpose of withdrawing blood specimens for testing. Also performs clerical, computer data entry, and specimen processing functions in multiple areas of the laboratory.

Requirements

At least 18 years old with a High School Diploma or GED
Basic Life Support (BLS) required or willing to obtain within 30 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

Phlebotomy or Medical Assisting certificate preferred

Responsibilities

Performs venipunctures and skin punctures using appropriate phlebotomy techniques on patients of all ages.
Processes tissue, cytology, fine needle aspirate, and frozen section samples in an accurate and precise manner.
Maintains records per department policy.
Distributes test results to appropriate areas and physicians.
Perform assigned clerical duties to support other laboratory personnel.
Performs venipunctures at local nursing homes and/or assisted living facilities, on a schedule defined by the hospital.
Maintain orderly condition of assigned work area.
Is knowledgeable of general hospital and unit specific policies and procedures.
Performs EKGs, Holter Monitors, and Event Monitors.
Collects chain of custody drug screen collections.
Collects other specimens as defined by the hospital.
Place orders for outpatient procedures and verify order and diagnosis accuracy.
Maintain knowledge and skills necessary to communicate and interact with patients, visitors, and staff in the following age groups: Infant, Pediatric/adolescent, Adult, & Geriatric

Responsible for meeting fiscal requirements, and compliance with the accrediting body guidelines along with Federal and State regulations.
Completes and maintains all required education and/or training requirements.
Complies with HIPAA regulations and always maintains patient confidentiality.
Follows and maintains all lawful safety, health requirements, and regulations, and follow protocols for required protective equipment (PPE).
Promptly reports safety issues, job-related injury, or illness, near misses, etc. in SafetyZone.
