About The Position

Responsible for obtaining specimens from patients with minimum discomfort and pain for the performance of various blood and chemical analysis. This role involves obtaining specimens with a high degree of professionalism and concern for patients, becoming familiar with all procedures and instruction guides, completing appropriate forms, verifying patient identity, and delivering specimens to the appropriate processing area. The position also requires proficiency in aseptic technique, documenting tests sent to reference labs and recording results, maintaining good working relationships with all departments, keeping the area stocked with supplies, maintaining a file procedure for special patient instructions, maintaining cleanliness of the work area, assisting with filing and other clerical duties, learning insurance requirements, and providing excellent service to both internal and external customers. Other tasks may be assigned.

Requirements

Knowledge of phlebotomy techniques.
Knowledge of clinic protocols and policies.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Graduation from an approved phlebotomy training program required.

Nice To Haves

Phlebotomy certification preferred.
Minimum of one year of experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Become familiar with all procedures and instruction guides to obtaining specimens and instructing patients.
Complete all appropriate forms: Reference lab log according to protocol.
Verify information and patient identity.
Deliver specimens to appropriate processing area.
Ensure proficiency in aseptic technique.
Document tests sent to reference labs and record the results of these tests upon receipt, sending a copy to the doctor and filing a copy in the lab.
Maintain a good working relationship with all departments.
Keep area stocked with supplies.
Maintain a file procedure for special patient instructions.
Maintain cleanliness of work area.
Assist with filing and other clerical duties such as greeting and checking in patients.
Responsible for learning insurance requirements.
Provide excellent service to both internal and external customers.
Perform other tasks as assigned.
