About The Position

This is a contract assignment for a Phlebotomist in Orleans, MA. The role involves collecting blood specimens, processing laboratory specimens, registering patient demographic information, entering physician orders, and communicating with patients and healthcare staff. The position requires travel between laboratory collection sites and may involve occasional home, nursing home, and physician office blood draws. Maintaining inventory and ensuring cleanliness of phlebotomy areas are also key responsibilities. Adherence to HIPAA, Medicare, and regulatory compliance standards is mandatory.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License.
  • Successful completion of a phlebotomy training program or relevant phlebotomy work experience.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Successful completion of Medical Terminology Exam.
  • Acceptable driving record in accordance with company requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and basic computer applications.
  • Familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).

Nice To Haves

  • Phlebotomy Certification preferred.
  • Experience working in laboratory or healthcare settings preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collect blood specimens using venipuncture, finger sticks, and heel sticks.
  • Obtain throat culture swabs and provide instructions for home specimen collections.
  • Process laboratory specimens according to testing requirements and laboratory guidelines.
  • Register patient demographic information accurately into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
  • Enter physician laboratory orders accurately and efficiently.
  • Communicate professionally with patients, physicians, and healthcare staff.
  • Resolve specimen-related issues and escalate concerns when appropriate.
  • Travel between multiple laboratory collection sites as needed.
  • Perform occasional home, nursing home, and physician office blood draws.
  • Maintain inventory supplies and ensure phlebotomy areas remain clean, organized, and fully stocked.
  • Adhere to HIPAA, Medicare, laboratory policies, and regulatory compliance standards.
