About The Position

Collects clinical laboratory specimens and performs tasks associated with patient registration, order entry, and specimen processing with general supervision. Performs waived testing with general supervision. Provides logistical support to team members and general assistance to customers. This role requires the ability to perform venipunctures and collect other specimens, explaining proper collection procedures to patients. The phlebotomist will clarify orders and pre-analytical test requirements, perform registration, requisition lab orders, and verify billing information. Processing, storing, and transporting specimens according to laboratory requirements are key duties. The position involves actively promoting HNL Lab Medicine’s values, exhibiting excellent customer relations, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of specimen requirements and collection devices. Responsibilities also include maintaining an adequate inventory of supplies, ensuring a meticulous work area, assisting in training new staff, participating in Continuous Service Improvement and continuing education programs, and properly documenting expense reimbursements. The role may require on-call duties, mobile service, and travel to sites within 25 miles for coverage. Per diem work is determined by department needs and employee availability, with flexibility being an expectation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • 6 months to 2 years related experience and/or training preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Knowledge of Word Processing software.
  • Must be accessible to appropriate and reliable transportation to perform essential duties and responsibilities.
  • Certification required by the American Heart Association for Basic Life Support to include adult, child and infant. Certification will be provided if needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provides on-call and mobile service as required.
  • Required to travel to sites within 25 miles other than base location as needed for coverage.
