The Phlebotomist is responsible for obtaining quality blood samples using various phlebotomy methods and standard safety equipment from all age groups, adhering strictly to regulatory requirements and collection procedures. This position also involves providing rapid response to medical emergencies, ensuring accurate patient identification, specimen labeling, handling, and transportation. The role requires proficiency with various computer programs, maintaining patient confidentiality, and utilizing excellent customer relations and communication skills when interacting with patients, nurses, providers, and other healthcare professionals. A positive and professional demeanor, the ability to work independently and in a team, and strong skills in coping, understanding instructions, organization, prioritization, attention to detail, problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making are essential. The role may involve assisting with training students and new employees. This vacancy is not eligible for sponsorship, visa transfer, or F-1 STEM OPT extension.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • All applicants must include a resume in their application.
  • Willingness to travel to other MCHS locations for assignments as needed.
  • Must be able to push a cart and walk distances.
  • Moderate to advanced computer skills.
  • Possess good written and oral communication skills, the ability to prioritize work, manage time wisely, and adjust to changes in work volumes and projects.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Phlebotomy experience, preferred.
  • Experience working in a medical field, preferred.
  • Community Laboratory Medicine & Pathology (CLMP) employees that have been in their current lab/position for less than 2 years must attach an early release approval from their supervisor.
  • Internal applicants must attach their 3 most recent performance appraisals.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains quality blood samples using a variety of phlebotomy methods (venous, capillary, arterial, and line collections) using standard safety equipment from all age groups with strict adherence to regulatory requirements and collection procedures.
  • Provides rapid response to medical emergencies such as traumas and codes.
  • Responsible for accurate patient identification, quality specimen labeling, handling and transportation.
  • Able to work with a variety of computer programs/systems.
  • Must maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Utilizes good customer relations and communication skills in performing phlebotomy, answering the phone and interacting with patients, nurses, providers and other health care professionals to ensure high customer satisfaction.
  • Demonstrates a positive and professional demeanor.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
  • Must possess skills in coping, understanding, following written and verbal instruction, organization and prioritization, attention to detail, problem solving, critical thinking and decision making.
  • Must be able to push a cart and walk distances.
  • Assists with training students and new employees.
