About The Position

Saint Mary's Hospital in Waterbury, Connecticut, is seeking a Phlebotomist for its Physician Blood Draw Department. The role is primarily responsible for obtaining blood specimens, processing laboratory specimens for clinical analysis, providing patient information to the appropriate caregiver, and ensuring accurate and complete patient registration. The position requires flexibility to cover Physician Blood Draw locations as needed. This is a 40-hour-per-week day-shift position. Hours may change slightly depending on the location. The role involves working independently while communicating effectively with patients, staff, and outside providers.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Completion of a phlebotomy program.
At least 1 year of phlebotomy experience in a blood draw station, ambulatory care, or acute care setting.
Knowledge of the use of an information system.
Strong communication skills.
Ability to work and communicate effectively with patients, staff, and outside providers.
Ability to take initiative and work alone.

Nice To Haves

National Phlebotomy Certification.

Responsibilities

Identify patients properly according to policy and perform venipuncture using standard or butterfly methods.
Label all specimens according to laboratory policy.
Receive, cancel, and order laboratory and microbiology specimens, and process specimens.
Ensure accurate and complete patient registration.
Provide patient information to the appropriate caregiver.
Cover other Physician Blood Draw sites when necessary.
