About The Position

Saint Mary's Hospital in Waterbury, Connecticut is hiring a full-time Phlebotomist for its outpatient Physician Blood Draw Department. The role is primarily responsible for collecting blood specimens, processing laboratory specimens for clinical analysis, and providing patient information to the appropriate caregiver. The phlebotomist also ensures accurate and complete patient registration and must be flexible to cover Physician Blood Draw locations as needed. This is a 40-hour-per-week day-shift position.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent and completion of a phlebotomy program.
• At least 1 year of phlebotomy experience in a blood draw station, ambulatory care, or acute care setting.
• Knowledge of using an information system.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to work and communicate effectively with patients, staff, and outside providers.
• Ability to take initiative and work independently.

Nice To Haves

• National Phlebotomy Certification.

Responsibilities

• Identify patients properly according to policy and perform venipuncture using standard or butterfly methods.
• Label all specimens according to laboratory policy.
• Receive, cancel, and order laboratory and microbiology specimens, and process specimens.
• Complete patient registration accurately and completely.
• Provide patient information to the appropriate caregiver.
• Cover other Physician Blood Draw locations when needed.
