This full-time Phlebotomist position is responsible for verifying positive patient identification, assessing patient reactions to specimen procurement, and performing venipuncture and collecting other specimens from newborn, pediatric, and adult patients according to established protocols. The role involves obtaining specimens according to priority and scheduled draw times, ensuring completion of specimen collection functions, and verifying that specimens are properly labeled and suitable for testing. Responsibilities also include resolving specimen identification and/or requisition problems, performing limited testing under CLIA guidelines, answering and screening telephone calls, assisting with inventory, and maintaining supplies and equipment. The Phlebotomist will also process specimens for testing, respond to additional specimen procurement requests, order and verify test requests, document information for quality assurance, run quality control checks, notify providers of stat/critical results, perform laboratory result entry, and conduct proficiency testing. Additionally, the role involves instructing employees and students in phlebotomy, data entry, and specimen processing functions, and demonstrating knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care.
