Performs laboratory specimen collection from patients for diagnostic purposes. This role involves determining and executing the best method for obtaining biological specimens from patients of all ages (venipuncture, capillary, heel-stick) to ensure quality specimens for testing. The phlebotomist will also order appropriate tests in the Laboratory Information System (LIS), interact with patients professionally and compassionately, prepare aliquots of samples for transport, and maintain a safe and clean working environment. Additionally, the role includes maintaining laboratory supply inventory, performing preventative maintenance on equipment, practicing proper patient identification verification, managing work queues for accurate registration, and actively participating in the laboratory quality plan. The phlebotomist will also participate in training new staff and students.
