About The Position

Navitas Healthcare, LLC is seeking an experienced Phlebotomist to join a fast-paced hospital laboratory team in Rockford, IL. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong clinical skills, attention to detail, and excellent patient interaction abilities while ensuring accurate and timely specimen collection and processing.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of phlebotomy experience (hospital setting preferred)
  • Current BLS/BCLS certification
  • Proficiency in venipuncture, capillary collection, and specimen processing
  • Experience with Epic or similar electronic medical record systems
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory workflows and procedures
  • Excellent communication and patient care skills
  • Ability to work overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to perform in a high-volume environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with arterial draws and specialized specimen collections
  • Familiarity with patient registration and insurance verification processes
  • Experience with waived testing and rapid diagnostic procedures

Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collections across all patient age groups
  • Properly identify patients using two identifiers and ensure accurate specimen labeling
  • Collect and handle a variety of specimens including blood, urine, swabs, cultures, and specialized tests
  • Perform arterial punctures (if required) and time-sensitive collections such as glucose tolerance testing
  • Process specimens including centrifuging, aliquoting, and transport to appropriate laboratory departments
  • Enter and manage patient and specimen data using Hospital Information Systems (HIS) and Laboratory Information Systems (LIS)
  • Assist with patient registration, insurance verification, and payment collection when applicable
  • Clarify and verify lab orders with physicians, nursing staff, and laboratory personnel
  • Maintain specimen integrity using proper aseptic and handling techniques
  • Perform waived and rapid testing such as glucose monitoring, flu/strep tests, and urinalysis
  • Communicate critical lab results to appropriate clinical staff in a timely manner
  • Support inventory management and ensure adequate laboratory supplies
  • Provide patient education regarding specimen collection procedures
  • Maintain compliance with all safety, infection control, and regulatory guidelines
  • Travel to patient homes or designated collection sites if required
