About The Position

As a Phlebotomist working the full-time night shift, you will play a critical role in the collection of blood specimens from patients in a safe, efficient, and compassionate manner. Your primary objective is to ensure accurate and timely blood draws that support diagnostic testing and patient care during overnight hours. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician from an accredited program (e.g., ASCP, NHA, or equivalent).
  • At least one year of experience performing phlebotomy in a clinical or hospital setting.
  • Knowledge of blood collection techniques, specimen handling, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to work night shifts and maintain alertness during overnight hours.
  • Venipuncture proficiency and specimen handling are essential for performing accurate and safe blood draws.
  • Attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols ensure that specimens are collected and processed without error, maintaining patient safety and data integrity.
  • Communication skills are used daily to explain procedures to patients and to collaborate with healthcare team members effectively.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a hospital or acute care environment during night shifts.
  • Additional certifications related to patient care or laboratory procedures.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) and laboratory information systems (LIS).
  • Strong interpersonal skills with experience in patient communication and comfort.
  • Basic life support (BLS) certification.
  • Familiarity with EMR systems enhance efficiency in documentation and specimen tracking, while additional certifications and BLS training contribute to overall patient care quality.

Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection procedures on patients of all ages with professionalism and care.
  • Label and handle specimens accurately to ensure proper identification and prevent contamination or mix-ups.
  • Maintain detailed records of all blood draws, including patient information, collection times, and any complications encountered.
  • Adhere strictly to infection control, safety protocols, and regulatory guidelines to protect patients and staff.
  • Communicate effectively with patients to explain procedures, alleviate concerns, and provide a positive experience during blood collection.
  • Coordinate with laboratory staff to ensure timely transport and processing of specimens collected during the night shift.
  • Manage inventory of phlebotomy supplies and report any shortages or equipment malfunctions promptly.
  • Participate in ongoing training and quality improvement initiatives to maintain high standards of practice.
