About The Position

Preferred Primary Care Physicians is currently recruiting for a full-time Phlebotomist in one of our practices in the McMurray area. The ideal candidate must be comfortable working on a computer and have the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced working environment. This role serves patients by preparing specimens for laboratory testing and performing screening procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Verifies test requisitions by comparing information with nursing station log and bringing discrepancies to the attention of unit personnel.
  • Verifies patient by reading patient identification.
  • Obtains blood specimens by performing venipunctures and fingersticks.
  • Maintains specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following department procedures, and observing isolation procedures.
  • Tracks collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection, and maintaining daily tallies of collections performed.
  • Performs bleeding-times tests by entering results to the computer and notifying the pathologist of results falling outside normal ranges.
  • Maintains quality results by following department procedures and testing schedule, recording results in the quality-control log, and identifying and reporting needed changes.
  • Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
