About The Position

As a Phlebotomist, you will be responsible for obtaining quality blood samples using a variety of phlebotomy methods for all age groups, including venous, capillary, arterial, and line collections. You will provide rapid response to medical emergencies such as traumas and codes. Working as a Phlebotomist at Mayo Clinic involves working both independently and as a team, fostering an inclusive work environment, and respecting diverse backgrounds and perspectives. You will interact with patients, nurses, providers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction. Daily tasks include using various computer programs and systems, accurate patient identification, quality specimen labeling, handling, and transportation, answering phones, and assisting with the training of students and new employees. Individuals hired for this position are required to complete 2 years in this role before becoming eligible to transfer to other positions within Mayo Clinic. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship and Mayo Clinic does not participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • All applicants must include a resume in their application.
  • Must be able to push a cart and walk distances.
  • Moderate to advanced computer skills.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work, manage time wisely, and adjust to changes in work volumes and projects.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Phlebotomy experience.
  • Experience working in a medical field.
  • Possess a valid phlebotomy certification from an approved laboratory certification agency (e.g., ASCP, NHA, ASPT) for Phlebotomist II.
  • Possess a valid Medical Assistant (MA) certification from an approved agency (e.g., AMA) for Phlebotomist II.
  • Possess a valid Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification for Phlebotomist II.
  • Possess a valid Medical Technologist (MT) certification for Phlebotomist II.

Responsibilities

  • Obtaining quality blood samples using a variety of phlebotomy methods for all age groups (venous, capillary, arterial, and line collections).
  • Providing rapid response to medical emergencies such as traumas and codes.
  • Working independently and as part of a team, fostering an inclusive work environment.
  • Interacting with patients, nurses, providers, and other healthcare professionals.

  • Assisting with the training of students and new employees.
  • Willingness to travel to other MCHS locations for assignments as needed.
