About The Position

The Atlanta VA Medical Center (VAMC), a Joint Commission-designated medical facility, is seeking a Phlebotomist to join their team. This facility is a level 1A tertiary care facility providing patient-centered healthcare through comprehensive medical, surgical, and geriatric specialty services, along with state-of-the-art diagnostic testing. The Atlanta VAMC serves over 130,000 enrolled Veterans across 50 counties in northeast Georgia and is a teaching hospital collaborating with Emory University School of Medicine and Morehouse School of Medicine.

Requirements

• Minimum of 12 months of specialized phlebotomy experience.
• Certification from an approved Phlebotomy Training Program by the National Phlebotomy Association (NPA).
• Maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification approved by the American Heart Association (AHA).

Responsibilities

• Accurately identifies patients and obtains specimens.
• Reports adverse reactions promptly.
• Processes specimens.
• Handles specimen pickup and delivery.
• Performs computer tasks such as accessioning.
• Completes mandatory education and adheres to all relevant laboratory policies and procedures.
• Follows hospital and laboratory safety and computer policies.
• Handles elderly and difficult patients with tact and compassion.
• Demonstrates basic typing and PC computer skills.
