About The Position

As a Phlebotomist, you will perform essential pre-analytical and post-analytical functions in our laboratory, focusing on accurate specimen collection and quality assurance. This role involves collecting specimens via venipuncture or capillary puncture, ensuring correct specimen types are collected, responding to STAT orders, and maintaining communication with team members. You will also verify the accuracy of test orders, participate in quality assurance checks, and perform EKGs and specialized tests. Additional duties may include assisting with onboarding new staff in the LIS, ensuring all patient testing is accounted for prior to collection, and functioning as an accession technician when qualified.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Proficiency in Mysis Laboratory Information System.
• Knowledge of basic biology, chemistry, and mathematics.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Customer service-oriented with problem-solving abilities.
• Adaptable and able to work in a dynamic environment.
• Frequent standing, walking, and light lifting (up to 20 lbs).
• Ability to operate a personal computer for up to 40% of the time.
• Must manage tasks with potential mental/visual fatigue due to frequent deadlines.

Nice To Haves

• National Phlebotomy Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain communication with team members and charge personnel.
• Verify accuracy of test orders and participate in quality assurance checks.
• Perform EKGs and specialized tests (e.g., sweat chloride, bleeding time).
• Assist with onboarding new staff in the LIS.
• Ensure all patient testing is accounted for prior to collection.
• Function as an accession technician when qualified.
