About The Position

The Phlebotomist performs phlebotomies and special collection procedures for patients of all ages, from neonates to geriatric patients, and for employees. The role applies phlebotomy theories and techniques to obtain quality specimens that support reliable test results. It also performs registration and clerical functions for the department. The position has full access to patient health information and may access medication storage areas, excluding controlled substances, as related to job responsibilities.

The schedule is Monday through Friday, 11:00 AM to 7:30 PM, with on-call duty every fourth weekend.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross; the posting also specifies a current BLS certification from an approved organization.
• Successful completion of a phlebotomy training course through a community college or hospital-based training program, or significant relevant phlebotomy experience in a health care setting sufficient to provide the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge.
• Current certification from a national accrediting agency such as ASCP, ASPT, or the National Phlebotomy Association upon hire.
• Ability to pass the basic FIT test and perform the listed physical activities, including walking, kneeling, standing, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, reaching, and sitting for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 15 pounds.

Nice To Haves

• 1–2 years of experience in a laboratory, hospital, or doctor’s office with some phlebotomy experience.
