About The Position
Under the supervision of the Phlebotomy Supervisor, the Phlebotomist ensures accurate specimen collection, labeling, and handling. They maintain a clean environment, support patient comfort and safety, and help educate and reassure patients during procedures. This role involves interpreting provider test orders, performing specimen accessioning and processing, and utilizing computer systems for registration and test order entry. The Phlebotomist also assists with training team members and students, models compassionate patient-centered care, adheres to safety practices, operates technical equipment, and manages inventory.

Responsibilities
- Accurately interprets provider test orders and follows approved standard operating procedures for all specimen collections.
- Accurately uses the HIS and LIS for patient registration and test order entry.
- Evaluates provider test orders and collects specimens for acceptability and determines rejections according to established guidelines.
- Accurately labels aliquot samples as required.
- Recognizes and corrects defects before they are passed on to the next step of the process.
- Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in the use of the HIS and LIS software systems in all job-related functions.
- Assists with training of team members and students.
- Models compassionate, patient-centered care by ensuring comfort during specimen collection, addressing concerns with empathy, and maintaining a professional, respectful demeanor to enhance the overall patient experience. - Demonstrates knowledge of and practices department safety procedures in accordance with policies and regulatory agencies.
- Operates and maintains all technical equipment according to approved standard operating procedures.
