Phlebotomist II has experience and can independently perform venipunctures and skin punctures on all age groups, from neonates through adults, to obtain blood specimens. This role requires knowledge of processing specimens for analysis and the ability to utilize appropriate computer systems for patient registration, billing facilitation, laboratory specimen accessioning, and information provision. The Phlebotomist II is responsible and accountable for performing a wide range of tasks to provide a specimen of the highest analytical quality for testing and accurate information for clients. This includes performing duties to support the goals and objectives of providing quality patient care and patient satisfaction. A phlebotomist's duty is to make patients feel relaxed and protected while collecting a blood sample. The ability to explain the blood drawing process to patients and to show a comforting attitude toward patients creates an amiable environment. This position supports Geisinger’s mission of providing exceptional patient care through innovative, efficient, and high-quality laboratory services. Geisinger phlebotomists are the friendly faces that collect samples to be analyzed by state-of-the-art labs. Supporting a varied patient population, you’ll be responsible for venipunctures/skin punctures on patients in our inpatient setting. There are many other tasks our phlebotomists complete, such as troubleshooting physician orders, processing specimens for testing, as well as aiding our patients. Geisinger employs phlebotomists in roles I, II, and III, and has numerous staff members who pursue ASCP certification and become trainers for the department.
