The Phlebotomist is responsible for verifying positive patient identification to ensure patient safety and assessing patient reactions to specimen procurement. This role involves performing venipuncture and collecting other specimens from patients of all age groups according to established protocols. The Phlebotomist also performs limited testing under CLIA guidelines, answers and screens telephone calls, assists with inventory, and processes specimens for transport and testing. Additionally, they are responsible for ordering and verifying test requests, documenting information for quality assurance, running quality control checks, and notifying providers of critical results. The position also involves performing laboratory result entry, proficiency testing, and instructing employees and students in phlebotomy and related functions. The incumbent must demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate for the age of the patients served.
