The Phlebotomist role involves assisting in determining donor suitability, establishing rapport with donors to ensure customer satisfaction and confidentiality, responding to donor reactions, and monitoring donors and equipment. The role also includes setting up, operating, and disconnecting automated plasmapheresis machines, as well as disconnecting and disposing of contaminated equipment. The work is performed in a plasma center with potential exposure to biological fluids, infectious organisms, electrical equipment, and extreme cold. Personal protective equipment is required. The job involves standing for 6-8 hours per day, with bending, twisting, and frequent hand and foot movements. Light lifting of up to 15lbs, with a maximum of 50lbs, and reaching below shoulder height may be required. Hearing acuity, color perception, and specific vision capabilities are essential. Work is performed standing for 6 to 8 hours per day.
Bending and twisting neck and waist for 1-2 hours per day.
Frequent hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists.
Ability to make precise coordinated movements, of the fingers to grasp and manipulate objects.
Frequent foot movement; may infrequently squat, crouch or sit on one's heels.
May walk up to 6-8 hours per day.
Light lifting of 15lbs. with a maximum lift of 50lbs.
May reach below shoulder height.
Hearing acuity essential.
Color perception/discrimination, near vision and far vision correctable in one eye to 20/30 and to 20/100 in the other eye.
Able to comprehend and follow instructions to complete assigned tasks.
Must possess the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
Must perform within the guidance of both oral or written instructions.

Responsibilities

Assist in determining the suitability of donors.
Establish rapport with donors to ensure overall customer happiness while ensuring donor confidentiality.
Respond to and assist with handling donor reactions.
Monitor donor and equipment to ensure health of donors and quality of product.
Set up, disconnect, and operate the automated plasmapheresis machines.
Disconnect and dispose of all contaminated disposable equipment.
