About The Position

Horizon Health is a Critical Access, Rural Health Facility comprised of 25-inpatient beds located in Paris, IL & a multitude of outpatient clinic settings including Family Practice and Specialty Clinics in Paris and surrounding cities. We have been serving residents of Edgar County since 1968 though community education, emergency services, and outpatient care. As we continue to expand our services & locations, our community has grown far beyond Paris. The position is responsible for the collection of venous and capillary blood specimens from patients. Performs drug screen collection, routine clerical duties, and performs simple waived testing.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Phlebotomy skills for a wide range of ages preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred

Responsibilities

  • Follows laboratory procedures for obtaining specimens (blood and other body fluids) and swabs for laboratory testing.
  • Ensures specimen requirements are met at the time of collection and maintains specimen integrity.
  • Performs waived & Quality Control Testing
  • Prepares & processes specimens for courier pick up for processing at reference laboratory.
  • Assists the Medical Technologist, Laboratory Technologists and Pathologist when performing procedures as requested.
  • Documentation and order entry into hospital Laboratory Information System (LIS) and Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • This position may at any time obtain specimens from neonates, infants, children, adolescents, and geriatrics. This person must have appropriate knowledge and skills to perform laboratory related duties for these populations.
  • May also be assigned to assist in training phlebotomy to healthcare students.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
