About The Position

Under supervision, to draw blood; to perform routine clinical laboratory and clerical work; and to do other duties as required. Positions in this class prepare and process laboratory specimens according to standardized procedures and operate laboratory equipment that does not require technical judgment, decisions, or direct determination of test results. Maintains, demonstrates and is assessed on the knowledge and skills necessary to provide for physical, psychosocial and cultural needs appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her assigned unit.

Requirements

• Satisfactory completion of phlebotomy course approved by the State of California.
• Possession of a valid Phlebotomy Certificate issued by the State of California.
• BLS Certification through AHA.
• Knowledge of common laboratory terminology.
• Knowledge of the preparation of solutions, and stains.
• Knowledge of routine laboratory methods and procedures including safety procedures for working with patients.
• Knowledge of standard laboratory phlebotomy procedures and equipment.
• Knowledge of Laboratory Information Systems.
• Ability to manage emergency or crisis situations; requires judgement/action which could result in undesirable patient outcomes.

Nice To Haves

• Minimum of one year experience as Phlebotomist in a hospital or healthcare environment.
• Completion of a certified training program with required practical application of phlebotomy techniques on all age groups.
