About The Position

Saint Mary's Hospital, Waterbury CT PER DIEM. Are you a Phlebotomist who enjoys working independently? Then this job is for you! Come work for our Physician Blood Draw Department. Come and be part of our specialized team! You would be primarily responsible to obtain blood specimens, process laboratory specimens for clinical analysis, and to provide patient information to the appropriate care giver. Ensures accurate and complete patient registration. Flexibility to cover Physician Blood Draw locations as needed.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent and completion of phlebotomy program
Minimum of 1 year of phlebotomy experience in a blood draw station, ambulatory care or acute care setting.
Knowledge in the use of information system
Strong communication skills
Ability to effectively work and communicate with patients, staff and outside providers
Ability to take initiative and work alone
Must be able to train on day shift, M-F, for EPIC Training

Nice To Haves

Nat'l Phlebotomy Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

Properly identifies patient per policy and performs venipuncture using standard/butterfly methods
Labels all specimens following laboratory policy
Receives/cancels/orders and processes laboratory/microbiology specimens
Flexible to cover other sites when necessary
Obtain blood specimens
Process laboratory specimens for clinical analysis
Provide patient information to the appropriate care giver
Ensures accurate and complete patient registration
