About The Position

Carter BloodCare is expanding its dynamic team of Phlebotomists and is looking for individuals passionate about helping others, committed to delivering the highest care and customer service to our donors, and willing to learn. This role is essential to the procurement process of safe and quality blood products. Opportunities are available on Mobile Collections teams, which travel to different locations for blood drives, and Donor Center teams, located throughout North, Central and East Texas. Mobile Collections teams offer the chance to connect with different donors daily, while Donor Center teams allow for building relationships with regular donors.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Six months of general work experience OR comparable education in the medical field, such as an internship or externship.
  • Customer service experience

Responsibilities

  • Personally connect with donors, listen to their stories, and help them understand the impact of their donation.
  • Collaborate with teammates to create a friendly environment for volunteer donors.
  • Ensure blood collected meets regulatory requirements and can be safely transfused.
  • Work with the team to move, set up, and take down equipment at mobile blood drives.
  • Handle donors and access equipment, including standing, sitting, walking, stooping, and working in confined spaces and narrow aisles.
  • Ascend and descend stairs/steps to enter and exit transport vehicles, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or bend to set up and access equipment.
  • Communicate with donors to obtain medical history and monitor them during donation.
  • Move and set up blood collection equipment/supplies weighing up to 25 pounds daily.
  • Partner carry items over 25 pounds (up to 50 pounds for Donor Center Phlebotomists, up to 120 pounds for Mobile Collections Phlebotomists).
  • Periodically assist donors experiencing a reaction.
  • Frequently load and unload vehicles, and may be required to push carts/dollies weighing up to approximately 250 pounds.
  • Handle many types of equipment and cases in all types of weather conditions, including adverse weather.
  • Understand, remember, and apply oral/written instructions.
  • Apply common sense in performing the job.
  • Express or exchange ideas by communicating professionally with others through spoken word, email, text, or written report.
  • Adapt to changing environments, including changing processes/procedures.
  • Work effectively in high-stress situations.
  • Maintain normal vision requirements, including the ability to see close and distant objects, adjust focus, distinguish colors, and judge distance.
  • Regularly exposed to cleaning chemicals, including bleach.
