About The Position

The Phlebotomist Technician performs a range of laboratory duties, which includes phlebotomy, specimen handling, telecommunication, and some clerical duties. The position involves performing laboratory duties, maintaining knowledge of tests and computer ordering codes, processing specimens, managing records including chain of custody, and ensuring compliance with regulatory agencies. Additionally, the role may involve performing in-office point-of-care testing and collecting various specimen types. Providing outstanding customer service and maintaining professionalism and confidentiality are key aspects of this role.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Complete Genesis assigned phlebotomy course at Genesis laboratory.
  • Sign off of competency to draw blood from Genesis Physician Services – yearly.
  • Ability to provide outstanding customer service and maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure in a complex and changing working environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates excellence with listening, verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • May perform phlebotomy, demonstrating proper collection techniques.
  • Maintains knowledge of laboratory tests and appropriate computer ordering codes.
  • Processes specimens, maintaining specimen integrity.
  • Maintains proficiency in record management, including specimen chain of custody, patient release of information forms, consent forms, and filing reference lab reports.
  • Stays in compliance with all regulatory agencies including ODH, CLIA, OSHA, and HIPPA.
  • May perform in office point-of-care (POC) testing including but not limited to: Strep, Flu A&B, hemoccult, urinalysis, HCG, drug screening, hemoglobin A1C, lipid panel, PT/INR.
  • May collect other specimen types (urine, throat, nasopharyngeal swabs).
  • Provides outstanding customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Maintains the highest level of professionalism and confidentiality at all times.
  • Performs other functions as assigned.
