About The Position

SCRI Oncology Partners, located in Nashville, Tenn., is a dedicated cancer treatment center led by globally recognized oncologists with disease expertise in cancer care and clinical research. This center offers patients state-of-the art personalized cancer care and opportunities to participate in clinical trials with innovative treatments. The practice conducts clinical trials through their affiliation with Sarah Cannon Research Institute (SCRI), a global leader in oncology research that has been offering and managing clinical trials in the community for over 30 years. Since its inception, SCRI has contributed to pivotal research that has helped advance the majority of new cancer therapies approved by the FDA today. The Phlebotomy Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day leadership, coordination, and oversight of phlebotomy services within SCRI Oncology Partners. This role ensures high-quality specimen collection, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and excellent patient experience across SCRI clinical sites. The Phlebotomy Supervisor serves as a working leader, providing direct supervision, training, and support to phlebotomy staff while collaborating closely with physicians, nurses, laboratory partners, and practice leadership. All responsibilities are carried out in accordance with the US Oncology Compliance Program and its Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of phlebotomy experience, preferably in an oncology or specialty practice
  • 1–2 years of supervisory or lead experience in a clinical setting
  • Strong knowledge of specimen handling, safety standards, and regulatory compliance
  • Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced clinical environment
  • Commitment to patient safety, quality, and service excellence
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Manual dexterity to perform venipuncture and specimen handling
  • Ability to lift and move supplies/equipment as required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in an oncology practice or high-volume outpatient clinic
  • National phlebotomy certification (e.g., ASCP, NHA, AMT, or equivalent)
  • Familiarity with electronic health records and laboratory information systems
  • Leadership experience supporting multi-site clinic operations

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, schedule, and support daily phlebotomy operations in alignment with clinic workflows and patient volume
  • Lead, mentor, and evaluate phlebotomy staff, including onboarding, training, coaching, and performance management
  • Ensure accurate and timely specimen collection, labeling, processing, and transport in accordance with oncology-specific protocols
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including CLIA, OSHA, HIPAA, and SCRI policies
  • Monitor quality metrics, specimen integrity, and error trends; implement corrective actions as needed
  • Serve as a clinical and operational resource for phlebotomy staff and other care team members
  • Coordinate phlebotomy coverage across clinics, including coverage for extended hours, holidays, and absences
  • Collaborate with laboratory vendors and internal partners to resolve specimen issues and improve service delivery
  • Oversee inventory management of phlebotomy supplies and equipment
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance patient access, safety, and satisfaction
  • Handle patient concerns related to phlebotomy services in a professional and compassionate manner
  • Support accreditation, audits, and inspections as required
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and patient-centered care
  • Ensure staff adherence to SCRI values, policies, and clinical standards
  • Conduct regular staff meetings and provide timely communication and feedback
  • Partner with Practice Administration and Clinical Leadership on staffing needs and workflow optimization
