Performs and trains staff on routine medical laboratory tests for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. This role involves performing phlebotomy and CLIA waived lab tests, collecting and testing patient specimens, and ensuring proper labeling of all materials. The Phlebotomist Lead also prepares samples for laboratory testing, analysis, or microscopy, sets up laboratory equipment, and maintains and stocks the lab. They conduct chemical analysis to determine the presence of normal and abnormal components, analyze samples of biological material for chemical content or reaction, and calculate medical diagnostic test results. The position requires adherence to infectious materials and safe waste disposal procedures, providing patient education, maintaining patient confidentiality, and managing a follow-up system for lab results. Analysis of medical tests and clinical results are entered into the computer for accountability. The role also includes labeling blood samples, maintaining documentation, assisting in protocol development, training new staff, acting as a resource for current staff, ensuring staff proficiency, and running periodic reports for the supervisor.
