About The Position

IU Health is seeking a Phlebotomist Lab Assistant II to provide general laboratory services at its West Lafayette location. Services include specimen collection, blood component preparation, pre-analytic specimen processing, waived testing, identified moderate-complexity testing, and related clerical tasks. The role may also involve patient and specimen registration and specimen delivery.

The position is full-time on the day shift, normally Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. It includes every fourth weekend, working 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday or Sunday, with on-call coverage on the opposite day. Holiday rotation is two holidays per year. IU Health’s laboratories operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and perform more than 19 million tests annually.

Requirements

• High school graduation or GED equivalent.
• Successfully complete an initial and six-month competency assessment for identified testing.
• Successfully complete an annual competency assessment for identified testing.
• Working knowledge of computers.
• Telephone skills.
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks for prolonged periods.

Nice To Haves

• Completion of a phlebotomy training program with experience in a laboratory, or coursework in biological, chemical, or related science.
• Experience in waived or moderate-complexity testing.

Responsibilities

• Collect specimens.
