About The Position

Indiana University Health is Indiana’s most comprehensive health system, comprising 16 hospitals and over 34,000 team members. The IU Health laboratories provide extensive services, operating 24/7 and conducting more than 19 million tests annually for IU Health and other healthcare providers nationwide. The Phlebotomist Lab Assistant I is responsible for general laboratory services, including routine venipuncture for specimen collection, order entry, blood component preparation, and pre-analytic specimen processing. The role also involves clerical duties such as system order entry, answering phone calls, and managing faxes. Additionally, the incumbent may handle patient and specimen registration and specimen delivery.

Requirements

HS grad or GED Equivalent
Proven understanding of computers
Telephone skills
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team member
Ability to perform repetitive tasks for prolonged periods of time

Nice To Haves

Completion of a phlebotomy training program with experience in laboratory or coursework in biological, chemical or related science preferred
May require a valid Indiana Operators license and a good driving history for the last three years
May require an understanding of the traffic laws in the State of Indiana

Responsibilities

Provides general laboratory services including specimen collection using routine venipuncture
Order entry
Blood component preparation
Pre-analytic processing of specimens
Perform related clerical tasks such as entering orders into the system
Answering phone calls
Managing faxes
May be responsible for patient and specimen registration and delivery of specimens
May serve on appropriate committees or projects that contribute to the overall purpose and essential functions of the department
