About The Position

The Lead Phlebotomist orients and trains new employees and students in regard to phlebotomy according to policies and procedures. Identifies what supplies that are needed in the phlebotomy and laboratory areas and submits this information to the Laboratory Supervisor. Prioritizes the collection of specimens based upon the status of routine, timed, urgent, or stat to ensure that workflow is timely and efficient. Prepares work schedules for the phlebotomy team. Register patients according to registration policy and procedures. Enters and edits ordering information in the computer system on patients and specimens to maintain accurate records of testing and patient billing. Reviews and prints unreceived collection lists. Performs venipunctures and capillary punctures efficiently to obtain suitable blood samples and correctly labels all specimens. Assist in specimen collection when requested. Performs other miscellaneous and related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Three (3) years of phlebotomy experience in a healthcare setting is required with lead experience.
  • Certification in Phlebotomy from a certifying agency (for example, ASCP).
  • Completed Accredited Phlebotomy Certificate Course, PBT(ASCP), NCA, NHA, NPT or Equivalent Phlebotomy Certification.
