About The Position

The Phlebotomist II collects and processes specimens according to established procedures, including drug screens, biometric screenings, and insurance exams. The role also administers oral solutions, verifies test and client information and orders, enters data, handles billing and payments when required, and completes non-patient-facing duties such as maintaining supplies, sanitizing, filing, answering phones, and using email. The position requires maintaining logs, following departmental procedures, assisting with statistics and data, and completing required training.

The position is in Chicago, Illinois, with a scheduled Monday-through-Friday workweek and rotational Saturday hours. The listed pay range is $21.75–$24.90 per hour. Salary offers consider relevant skills, training, experience, education, and applicable certifications, along with market and organizational factors. Successful candidates may be eligible for annual performance bonus compensation.

Requirements

• Three years of phlebotomy experience, including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
• Keyboard and data-entry experience.
• Flexible availability based on staffing needs, including weekends, holidays, on-call work, and overtime.
• Reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and a clean driving record, if applicable.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English.

Nice To Haves

• Medical assistant or paramedic training preferred.
• Phlebotomy certification preferred; required in California, Nevada, and Washington.

Responsibilities

• Collect specimens according to established procedures, including drug screens, biometric screenings, and insurance exams.
• Administer oral solutions according to established training.
• Research test and client information and confirm and verify written and electronic orders using laboratory technology systems, client contact, and approved tools.
• Navigate a computer and accurately enter data.
• Obtain identification, accurately enter billing information, and collect payments when required in accordance with corporate policies.
• Process specimens by labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, freezing, and preparing them for transport as required by the test order.
• Perform non-patient-facing duties, including inventory, stocking supplies, sanitizing, filing, answering phones, and using email as appropriate.
• Read, understand, and comply with departmental policies, protocols, and procedures.
• Assist with compiling and submitting statistics and data when required.
• Maintain appropriate phlebotomy logs in a timely manner and at the required frequency, including maintenance and temperature logs.
• Complete online and in-person training courses on time.
