About The Position

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary part-time Phlebotomist (Donor Centre Associate) to join their dynamic Collections team in their BC-Kelowna donor centre. The Collections team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by collecting donor blood, and blood components in a safe manner to provide patients with lifesaving products every day. In this role, you will perform phlebotomy in the collection process in accordance with health and safety standards. You will work face-to-face with donors, team members, and volunteers providing them with safe and quality service during each stage of the collection process.

Requirements

• Completion of high school.
• Completion of accredited training program in phlebotomy or one-year related experience. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
• Minimum 3 years of progressive experience working with the public, particularly in a high customer-focused environment.
• Knowledge of and experience working with current Good Manufacturing Practices
• Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new systems and programs.
• Ability to communicate in more than one language is an asset and enhances the quality of donor interactions.

Nice To Haves

• Previous knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook are considered assets.

Responsibilities

• Perform phlebotomy in the collection process in accordance with health and safety standards.
• Work face-to-face with donors, team members, and volunteers providing them with safe and quality service during each stage of the collection process.
• Conduct registration and confidential screening to determine eligibility and build and promote a positive donor experience.
• Ensure safe processing and handling of blood products as well as respecting donor privacy.
• Perform venipuncture according to established standards, monitoring donors for safety and comfort, and providing post-donation care and instruction.
• Ensure accuracy of product information in the computer system, when completing the product labelling process, and when preparing products.
• Drive continuous improvement by sharing knowledge and supporting best practices that enhance processes and elevate the donor experience.
• Assist in setting up booths, tables, and other equipment to ensure donor clinics are properly set up for use (optional – mobile clinics only).
