The Phlebotomist/Administrative Assistant Trainee, internally known as a Lab Services Specialist/Member Support Specialist Trainee, is an entry-level opportunity to launch a healthcare career at One Medical. No prior phlebotomy or medical assistant experience is required, as full training in phlebotomy and other clinical procedures will be provided. This role offers a chance to start a rewarding healthcare career, develop new skills, and directly impact patient lives. Trainees will provide exceptional care and support to patients, train in venipuncture and other clinical support services, remove barriers to care, and serve as the first point of contact for patients. They will also manage the office space and provide support as requested by leadership. The role requires a strong team player with innovative problem-solving skills, empathy, focus, and compassion in all interactions. Tactful interpersonal skills are essential for interactions with patients at the front desk and in the lab. Flex Lab Services Specialists/Member Support Specialist Trainees will support multiple offices within a Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA).

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of experience in high-touch customer or patient-facing roles.
  • Strong customer service skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective customer relationships and deliver customer-centric solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in computer technology such as typing, navigating the internet, and using multiple software systems simultaneously.
  • Experience working on collaborative, diverse, multi-disciplinary teams (additional experience with remote teams is a plus).
  • A proven ability to display confidence and instill trust with patients while delivering individualized, human-centered, customer-focused care.
  • A proven track record of persisting through change, consistently stepping up to take action on challenges, and learning quickly and effectively when faced with new situations or tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Use C-I-CARE framework in all patient interactions to ensure a fluid and positive in-office experience.
  • Manage patient intake, same-day schedule, and appropriate follow-up scheduling.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of billing and insurance.
  • Monitor patient feedback and assist with outreach as necessary.
  • Perform all front-of-house duties including check-in/check-out, insurance verification, printing/paperwork, prepping tests, and tasking to service level expectations.
  • Contribute to team development through rounding, attending team huddles, participating in problem-solving, and supporting providers with ad hoc requests.
  • Master the technology suite including Slack, G-suite, Zoom, and the Electronic Medical Record System (1Life).
  • Perform opening and closing duties, including daily office upkeep, maintaining the appearance of patient and employee spaces, restocking supplies, and organization.
  • Successfully complete One Medical clinical training and state-required education/certifications within the first six months of employment (One Medical sponsored).
  • Obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 60 days of hire (One Medical sponsored).
  • Provide best-in-class venipuncture services on a diverse patient population.
  • Perform and assist with extended scope duties such as non-blood specimen collection, EKGs/ECGs, vitals, ear lavages, vaccines, PPD tests, and swabs.
  • Maintain high standards of in-office care through proper specimen labeling, handling, processing, inventory upkeep, and tool sterilization.
  • Answer patient messages, follow up on lab cases, and assist providers and the virtual medical team with clerical duties, including medical record and consult review, billing inquiries, and DOH reporting.
