About The Position

Formlabs is seeking a PhD Intern for Materials Science to join their team for the Summer of 2027. This internship offers students the opportunity to create, build, solve, and discover in every area of the business, contributing to the future of 3D printing. The Materials intern will work in the lab alongside the Materials team, focusing on developing, formulating, and testing new materials. This role is ideal for someone passionate about material science or chemistry, comfortable in a wet lab environment, and with experience in polymers, CAD programs, and basic computer programming. The internship is a full-time, onsite position in Somerville, MA, with a term from May/June to August 2027.

Requirements

• Passionate about material science or chemistry
• Comfortable working in a wet lab environment
• Completed research or coursework with polymers
• Comfortable working with CAD programs (e.g., SolidWorks)
• Basic computer programming (Python)
• Background in organic chemistry or plastic engineering

Responsibilities

• Work on a PhD-level R&D project in the materials development lab.
• Develop, formulate, and test new materials for 3D printing.
• Contribute to solving new challenges in 3D printing through experimentation.
