The PRN Pharmacy Technician assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to the preparation and distribution of medications. This role involves accurately selecting, preparing, and labeling medications, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances. The technician will also assist with medication distribution, manage pharmacy procurement and inventory, and perform nonsterile compounding and sterile IV admixture following USP standards and aseptic technique, where applicable. Responsibilities include inspecting medication storage areas, documenting controlled substance handling, and completing medication admission histories. The role also involves screening phone calls, data entry, insurance verification, cashiering, and potentially obtaining immunization certification and performing immunizations under supervision. Additionally, the technician may operate a motor vehicle to deliver medications and supplies and may participate in quality improvement initiatives and assist in training other technicians.
