About The Position

The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for performing and supporting the daily operations of the Pharmacy Department. This role involves preparing prescriptions for pharmacist verification, operating the cash register, maintaining communication with the pharmacist, monitoring prescriptions, delivering medications, managing medication stock levels, and adhering to company policies. The position requires a certain level of professional and technical knowledge, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and specific licenses/certifications.

Requirements

  • Possesses work-related skills at a higher level than completion of high school, including formal written and verbal communications skills, computational and computer skills, mathematical, technical or health care related knowledge acquired through completion of a trade school, para-professional, or certificate type program.
  • Ability to prepare more complex documents in Microsoft Word, including creating tables, charts, graphs and other elements.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Excel to review and compile data, including the use of formulas, functions, lookup tables and other standard spreadsheet elements.
  • Ability to create basic presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Licensed in the state of California as a Pharmacy Technician.
  • Job duties require the compilation of information prepared in effective written form, including correspondence, reports, articles or other documentation.
  • Effectively conveys technical information to non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing prescriptions for Pharmacist’s final verification, including receiving E-script orders and new prescriptions, verifying patient information, entering/reviewing data in the Pharmacy Practice Management System, processing labels, obtaining refill approvals, selecting and counting medication, verifying prescription labels, presenting filled prescriptions for final review, and filing paperwork.
  • Operating cash register during patient prescription pick up, processing cash and credit card transactions, and obtaining patient signatures for insurance log documentation.
  • Keeping the Pharmacist informed of any warnings, Drug Utilization Review (DUR) screens, prescriptions requiring consultation, and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Monitoring prescriptions in the wait area by checking fill dates, running will call reports, removing old prescriptions, returning pulled medications to stock, and reversing orders online.
  • Delivering medications and prescriptions to other sites and maintaining accurate delivery logs.
  • Monitoring medication stock levels as directed by the pharmacist, including processing incoming medication orders, comparing shipped items to ordered items, affixing price stickers, stocking shelves, checking expiration dates, rotating or removing items, and returning outdated/expired/damaged/overstock/recalled merchandise.
  • Assisting the Pharmacist-in-charge (PIC) with inventory processes.
  • Adhering to the Attendance and Absenteeism Policy.
  • Ability to present to and work at any FHCN location.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
