About The Position

The Pharmacy Technician supports the organization by coordinating in-office pharmacy dispensing activities in accordance with company policies and procedures. This role assists with pharmacy benefit verification, accurate system entry, medication ordering, and close collaboration with clinical and operational teams to support patient treatment needs.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of experience in a medical practice or pharmacy environment preferred.
  • Prior experience with precertification and prior authorizations strongly desired.
  • Active Pharmacy Technician certification required.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to interpret written, verbal, and diagrammatic instructions.
  • Proficiency working with computer-based information systems.
  • Active or pending registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the New Jersey Board of Pharmacy required.
  • Technician Applicant status must be filed within 10 days of hire; full registration obtained within 180 days.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • State and/or national criminal background check and drug screening required in accordance with N.J.A.C. 13:39-6.6.
  • Must wear a visible identification badge including name and “Pharmacy Technician” title per N.J.S.A. 45:14-80(h).
  • Responsible for maintaining compliance with all federal and state regulations related to HIPAA, controlled substances, and medication dispensing.

Responsibilities

  • Document precertification and prior authorization processes accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate prior authorizations with third-party payers using CoverMyMeds and Epic.
  • Inform patients and appropriate parties of financial responsibilities, including copays, assistance programs, and grants when applicable.
  • Ensure medications are ordered and dispensed timely to meet patient treatment needs; proactively contact patients for routine medication refills.
  • Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to gather required documentation for pharmaceutical needs.
  • Obtain physician approval for medication dispensing as required.
  • Monitor pharmacy inventory and assist with maintaining appropriate stock levels.
  • Partner with billing teams to resolve coding, authorization, or reimbursement issues.
  • Post charges and payments in the practice management system and assist with daily deposit processes.
  • Maintain accurate files and contact records related to third-party communications.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold privacy, safety, and compliance standards.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with patients, visitors, physicians, and colleagues.
  • Travel to other business locations as needed to support service coverage.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
