Requirements

  • Registered Pharmacy Tech credentialed from the Tennessee Board of Pharmacy obtained within 3 Months (90 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. Pharmacy students actively enrolled in a school of pharmacy are not required to have certification/registration.
  • Certified Pharmacy Tech credentialed from the National Healthcareer Association obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Pharmacy students actively enrolled in a school of pharmacy are not required to have certification/registration.
  • Certified Pharmacy Tech credentialed from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Pharmacy students actively enrolled in a school of pharmacy are not required to have certification/registration.
  • High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
  • Required professional licensure/certification can be used in lieu of education or experience, if applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Performing hazardous drug compounding, managing nuclear pharmacy tasks, and conducting detailed medication histories.
  • Serving as a "financial navigator" by handling benefit investigations, prior authorizations, and enrolling patients in Patient Assistance Programs (PAP).
  • Managing automated dispensing systems (like Pyxis or Omnicell), overseeing drug shortage management, and handling bulk repackaging.
  • Acting as an immunizer (where state law allows) and serving as a "Pharmacist Extender"—a modern role that offloads clinical data gathering from the Pharmacist.
  • Coding and batching charges, billing Medicaid for long-term care residents, and ensuring accurate financial documentation.
