We are seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support our growing team by managing and completing medication prior authorizations for patients across multiple outpatient specialty practices. This position is located primarily at 1 Southpark Circle in Charleston (West Ashley), with training and occasional on-site work at MUSC Health East Cooper at 1600 Midtown Avenue in Mt. Pleasant. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 0 - 6 months of work experience
  • Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician by the State of South Carolina Board of Pharmacy (SCBOP) is required and must be maintained.
  • Must obtain and maintain Pharmacy Technician Certification (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT)) certification.
  • New team members who are enrolled or will enroll in a pharmacy technician training program accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and/or recognized by PTCB, have 30 days post program completion to obtain certification.

  • Team members as of 11/1/2023: within 1 year of 11/1/2023 to obtain certification.
  • New Team members as of 11/1/2023: within 6 months of hire to obtain certification.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the outpatient pharmacy operations by managing the end-to-end prior-authorization process for medications, services, and procedures.
  • Ensures timely submission of accurate documentation to payers.
  • Monitors authorizations and denials.
  • Collaborates with clinical and provider teams.
  • Helps optimize reimbursement while safeguarding patient access to therapy.
