About The Position

Altruix is a high-touch pharmacy dedicated to serving behavioral health and intellectual and developmental disability populations. Through our pharmacy expertise, Medherent technology, and specialized packaging, we promote medication adherence and improve patient outcomes. Our services help clients take medications as prescribed while reducing administrative burden for providers. Altruix is seeking a Pharmacy Technician – Prior Authorization Specialist to support patients and provider partners with benefits investigations, prior authorizations, medication access, and financial assistance. This role works closely with patients, providers, pharmacists, and internal teams to identify coverage barriers and help patients access prescribed medications.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Active Pharmacy Technician registration with the applicable State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy insurance processing and prescription benefits.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and priorities with strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn multiple pharmacy and insurance platforms.

Nice To Haves

  • Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT).
  • Two or more years of Pharmacy Technician experience.
  • Prior experience with prior authorizations, benefits investigations, specialty pharmacy, or patient financial assistance.
  • Experience with Medicare Part D, Medicaid, commercial insurance, or manufacturer assistance programs.
  • Familiarity with CoverMyMeds, SuiteRx, Salesforce, Framework, Availity, EHR portals, or similar systems.
  • Specialty or long-term care pharmacy experience.

Responsibilities

  • Complete benefits investigations and verify prescription coverage.
  • Coordinate prior authorizations from submission through approval, denial, or appeal.
  • Utilize CoverMyMeds and payer/provider portals to submit and track authorization requests.
  • Coordinate with providers to obtain required documentation and assist with appeals and letters of medical necessity.
  • Identify patient financial assistance options, including copay cards, manufacturer assistance programs, foundations/grants, and state-funded programs.
  • Support Medicare Part D patients with coverage and available assistance resources.
  • Communicate authorization and medication-access updates to patients, caregivers, providers, facilities, and internal pharmacy teams.
  • Troubleshoot insurance, billing, and medication-access issues and escalate when appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate documentation within pharmacy, CRM, payer, and provider systems.
  • Support specialty and LTC pharmacy workflows and provide cross-functional support as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
