Schedule: This position is scheduled to work 16 hours per week Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. This position may work weekends and holidays as needed. About the Facility: The Hospital for Behavioral Medicine, located in Worcester MA, is a 120-bed psychiatric hospital situated near the campus of the University of Massachusetts. HBM provides mental health and chemical dependency care for adolescents, adults, and senior adults. Treatment services include free initial screenings, assessment, inpatient and outpatient services, and aftercare referrals. Patients can expect a safe, caring environment with trained physicians, nurses, counselors, and technicians who will provide outstanding care for individuals and families. About the Pharmacy: The pharmacy is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm and on weekends from 7:30 am to 1:00 pm. The Pharmacy Technician will assist in various pharmacy activities under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Your responsibilities will include preparing, delivering, and restocking medications; performing order entry; procuring drugs; billing. You will carry out your job duties according to written procedures and guidelines based on pharmacy standards and regulatory requirements. We do not compound sterile products. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Active applicable state Pharmacy Technician license in good standing
  • PTCB/CPhT

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and dispense medications by measuring, counting, labeling, and packaging prescriptions under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist
  • Process prescription orders accurately, including entering patient and prescription data into pharmacy systems
  • Assist pharmacists and healthcare providers by gathering necessary information and supporting workflow efficiency
  • Prepare and compound medications (including IV admixtures and sterile products) following hospital protocols and USP standards
  • Process medication orders from electronic medical records (EMR/EHR) with accuracy and urgency
  • Deliver medications to patient care areas, including automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs) and nursing units
  • Maintain medication inventory by restocking, tracking controlled substances, and monitoring expiration dates
  • Support medication safety initiatives, including double-checks, labeling, and documentation
  • Collaborate with pharmacists, nurses, and clinical staff to ensure timely and safe medication delivery
  • Comply with hospital policies and regulatory standards, including Joint Commission and state/federal regulations
