About The Position

The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for preparing and distributing medications for patient consumption under the general supervision of a licensed pharmacist and in accordance with standard departmental procedures. This role involves drug distribution and intravenous admixture throughout the hospital and/or infusion center, competency in automated dispensing systems, ensuring medications are appropriately barcoded, and generating revenue through billing. The technician will maintain a safe and clean pharmacy environment, document pharmacy logs, manage monthly expiration medication assignments, and perform unit-dosing of medications. They will also utilize technology for efficient medication delivery, manage pharmacy inventory, assist healthcare providers with phone calls, and manage workflow and responsibilities appropriately within their shift. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school or equivalent.
  • Graduation from accredited Pharmacy Technician School.
  • Able to perform dose calculations, double checks accuracy of product selection and assures performance of both aseptic and hazardous drug compounding techniques that require the use of a USP797/800 compliant clean room and personal protective equipment to reduce exposure and contamination while maintaining sterility of the final product.
  • Organization/time management skills.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate excellent customer service.
  • Pharmacy Technician (CA DCA) Registration with California State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) - If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)

Responsibilities

  • Preparing and distributing medications for patient consumption.
  • Drug distribution and intravenous admixture throughout the hospital and/or infusion center.
  • Performing all aspects of the Pyxis automated dispensing systems.
  • Ensuring all medications are appropriately barcoded.
  • Certification in chemotherapy preparation practices with competency in utilizing Texium system.
  • Generating revenues by calculating, recording and issuing charges (OR billing).
  • Maintaining a safe and clean pharmacy by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Consistent documentation of all pharmacy log sheets.
  • Completing monthly expiration medication assignments and documenting consistently.
  • Repackaging/unit-dosing medications using the MILT4 program.
  • Aseptic technique.
  • Appropriate use of technology (computer, telecommunications, Cerner system, Power Chart, Pyxis) to triage workflow for efficient medication delivery (checking medication history, printing labels, checking drip rates).
  • Maintaining pharmacy inventory by checking pharmacy stock, assisting in restocking and rotating medications and supplies.
  • Assisting health care providers with phone calls in a timely manner (i.e. answers questions and requests, triage calls to appropriate personnel).
  • Appropriate use of time management for maintaining shift specific workflow.
  • Prioritizing responsibilities appropriately.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

  • The hourly rate range for this position is $24.70 - $41.99.
