The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for preparing and distributing medications for patient consumption under the general supervision of a licensed pharmacist and in accordance with standard departmental procedures. This role involves working under the direct supervision of the pharmacist at all times, with responsibilities including drug distribution and intravenous admixture throughout the hospital and/or infusion center. The technician will also be competent in performing all aspects of the Pyxis automated dispensing systems, maintaining accurate controlled substance inventory, and accurately and efficiently preparing and dispensing medications with pharmacist verification. Additionally, the role requires certification in chemotherapy preparation practices, revenue generation through billing, maintaining a safe and clean pharmacy, documenting pharmacy logs, completing monthly expiration medication assignments, repackaging/unit-dosing medications, and utilizing aseptic technique. The technician will appropriately use technology such as Cerner and Power Chart systems to manage workflow and medication delivery, maintain pharmacy inventory, assist healthcare providers with phone calls, and manage time effectively to prioritize responsibilities.
